You must accumulate enough points to qualify for any of the five visa tiers. The number of points you’ll need depends on the type of visa you’re requesting. You might be eligible for another visa if you don’t earn enough points for one.
Each tier level has its own requirements and conditions for people who want to live and work in the UK.
You must meet a minimum point requirement for each tier in order to be eligible to apply for that visa. There are different point requirements for each tier level. Different traits determine how you accrue points. These characteristics include your age, income, language, education, and financial resources.
Your ability to pay for your stay in the UK and your level of English proficiency will have a big impact on how many points you receive for your visa application.
Points for Age
You could receive five to twenty points, depending on your age. Younger applicants typically receive more points under the visa point system than older applicants. You should be aware that not all tiers take your age into account.
English proficiency points
You must obtain ten points for your proficiency in speaking, writing, and reading English regardless of where you are from. You may need to take English reading and speaking tests for some visa tiers, but not for others.
You are automatically given ten points, which is the maximum for all visa tiers, if you are from a nation where English is the official language. You’ll need to pass a test if you’re from a nation where English isn’t the official language. The following nationalities automatically receive ten points:
- Antigua & Barbuda
- Australia
- The Bahamas
- Barbados
- Belize
- Canada
- Dominica
- Grenada
- Guyana
- Jamaica
- New Zealand
- St. Kitts & Nevis
- St. Lucia
- St. Vincent & the Grenadines
- Trinidad & Tobago
- United States of America
Points for Maintenance and Earnings
You’ll need to show evidence, as we already mentioned, that you have the means to pay for your initial days in the UK. You’ll receive five to 20 points or 15 to 45 points depending on which tier you’re applying for.
Points for Qualifications
They will evaluate your educational credentials based on the tier level. Your abilities are evaluated on a point scale ranging from five to fifteen in some tiers, and from thirty to fifty in others.
Points for Certification of Sponsorship
You will require a work visa if you’re moving to the UK to work. You will have an easier time getting your visa if you have a certificate of sponsorship. A certificate of sponsorship is worth between 30 and 50 points.
Experience UK Points
Your time spent in the UK may be taken into account by some tiers when allocating points toward your visa. You may receive five points if you have any prior experience in the UK.
