The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) has commenced a 14-day warning strike action which took effect on Monday 5th of October 2020.

This statement was signed by the National chairman of SSANU “Samson Umogwe” and the General Secretary of NASU “Peter Adeyemi”. The Strike action according to the unions is centered on the inconsistency of the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS) on the payment of salaries and non-payment of earned allowances.

The two unions also gave other reasons for their joint strike action:

  • Poor funding of Universities
  • Non-payment of benefits to retired members
  • Non-payment of salaries
  • Delay in renegotiation of FG/SSANU and NASU agreements.
