The President of Nigeria, President Muhamadu Buhari held a virtual meeting with ECOWAS leaders today Thursday 11:00am August 2020, to discuss the military coup d’etat which took place in Mali on the 18th of August 2020.

ECOWAS had earlier condemned the change of government in Mali as it calls it an unconstitutional change of government. This meeting was held by various Heads of state of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) community to discuss the socio-political situation in Mali.

One of Mali’s Army officer Colonel Assimi Golta declared himself the leader of the coup on Wednesday the 19th of August. The African Union (AU) has joined other International bodies such as the EU,UN etc and other Nations to Condemn the coup and demand for the immediate release of the detained leaders.
